Takeout Double
• A takeout double is a competitive bid used to show opening hand with at least 12⁺ HCP
• A takeout double is played through the 4♦
• The idea shape is 4441 or 5440 shortness in opponent’s bid suit. The 3 suits support like
a 4432 also allow to make a takeout double.
Responding to the takeout double
• Pass = converts double into penalty, apply rule of 9
• Suit bid = 0-9 HCP

• Jump suit = 10⁺ HCP, 4 cards, forcing for 1 round
• 1NT = 8-10 HCP, no 4-major
• 2NT = 10-12 HCP, no 4-major
• 3NT = 13-15 HCP, no 4-major
• Cue bid = 13+ HCP, artificial bid forcing to game
• Jump Cue = below 3NT; 13+ hcp; ask stopper
• Jump Cue (m) = above 3NT; 7-12 HCP; show 5+5 majors
• Jump Cue (M) = above 3NT; 7-12 HCP; show 5+5 minors
Cue bids by advancer
When you have 13+ HCP and 2 suit major in the same length. The cue bids ask
double bidder to bid his major suits or longest one
Responding to a takeout double with interference
After a takeout double is redoubled
All suit is natural shows 6+ HCP and 4+card, jump bids are preemptive shows 0-9 HCP,
5+card
