Chapter 7: Defensive Bidding 133
Two Suited Overcall
Ghestem system
When opponent opens with suit
Ghestem system used to show 5-5 shape, 10-15 HCP or 19+HCP
Direct cue bid = shows highest and lowest
2NT = shows two lowest suits
3♣ = shows two highest suits
In case of 16-18 HCP, double takeout first then overcalls and rebids second suit.
Responding to Ghestem
Advancer bids
• Raise = less than 10 HCP, support
• Jump raise = 10-12 HCP, good support
• 2NT = 12-14 HCP, with stopper
• CUE = 15⁺ HCP, F with new suit or STR raises
• 3NT = 15-16 HCP, with stopper
Michaels Cue Bid
When opponent opens at 2-level or 3-level, we use a direct cue bid at 3-level as Michaels
Cue Bid showing strong hand, 16+ HCP, with two unbid suits
➢ (2♣) 3♣ shows spades and hearts in 5-5 shape with 16+ HCP

➢ (3♦) 4♦ shows spade and hearts in 5-5 shape with 16⁺ HCP
