Sandwich 1NT/2NT and Skew Cue Bids (Hess Cue Bids)

At the fourth seat after partner has passed and opponents have bid 2 different suits.

• Sandwich 1NT shows 5-5 or better in unbid suits and less than opening hand.

• Sandwich 2NT shows same distribution as sandwich 1NT but shows 16+ HCP

• Double shows 4-4 in unbid suit and 13⁺ HCP (2-level), 16⁺ HCP (3-level)
• Skew Cue Bids show 5-4 in unbid suit and 16+ points. A cue bid of higher rank shows 5

cards in higher rank unbid suit and 4 cards in lower rank unbid suit. A cue bid of lower
rank shows 5 cards in lower rank unbid suit and 4 cards in higher rank suit.

Example

1♦-(P)-1♥-1NT shows clubs and spades in 5-5 shape, less than opening hand

1♦ (P)-1♥-DBL shows clubs and spades in 4-4 shape, and opening hand value.
1♣-(P)-1♠-1NT shows diamonds and hearts in 5-5 shape, less than opening hand

1♠-(P)-2♣-2NT shows diamonds and hearts in 5-5 shape, and 16+ point
